The Constitution

I am becoming more and more aware of the lack of education of our children regarding the constitution.  Our children are being taught that our founding fathers came here mainly to practice their religion. There is so much more to it than that.  Our children aren't being told the whole story.  Until very recently, I myself didn't have a clue!

Yes, they have to take the Constitution Test in junior high, but that is simply memorizing the amendments, the articles, etc.  They're not being taught what the constitution means nor how and why it was written the way it was written.  I'd love to do a poll to find out how many people under the age of 50 know who John Adams is.

Our founding fathers believed in Natural Law.  That each of us is born with certain unalienable rights.  Among them are the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. But those aren't the only unalienable rights each of us is born with.  We're also born with unalienable duties.  Duties to be good citizens and to take care of one another are only a few.

The founding fathers were also concerned about the federal government getting to large and too powerful.  They knew for instance, that if the Federal Government became involved with charity or welfare, it would certainly lead to our downfall and demise.  They knew, from studying natural law and humanity, that if you provide for all the needs of any individual or group, those would lose the ambition, gumption, or desire to take care of themselves.  They firmly believed that charity should be done on the local level.  If the federal government begins to take care of people those people are far more likely to give up any desire to take care of themselves.  With that, they lose the ability to see tyranny when it smacks them in the face. They recognized that the moment the government is authorized to take from the haves and give to the have nots, the authority to 'redistribute the wealth' then the government thereafter has the authority to take from or deprive any of the people their equal rights to enjoy their lives, liberty, and property.

I recommend that if you truly want to be educated regarding the constitution and the founding of this country you begin by reading the book The 5000 Year Leap.
